Chapter 27
Trin called the committee meeting to order. âTomorrow is the big day. We either wow the establishment or fall short of the achievements of our predecessors.
âI have a brief announcement to make before we continue. Heather and I were married yesterday.â
Heather watched as Trinâs announcement was greeted with mixed emotions. Roxie cursed under her breath, and Father Provoost blanched. Everyone congratulated them, despite their personal feelings.
âMay we have a rundown on how this auction works one more time?â Father Provoost asked.
âItâs really quite simple,â Reed said, jumping up from her chair and grinning from ear to ear. âThose participating will have a number pinned to their lapel signifying that they are to be auctioned off at the end of the evening. Whoever wins the bid on an individual gets to spend eight hours with that person. Their eight hours must fall between eight in the morning and midnight, and a chaperone is supplied if one is requested.
âMy familyâs private jet will fly the winner and their prize to New York for dinner and to attend the current hottest show on Broadway.â
âThis is just wonderful,â Peter said, clapping his hands. âCan you imagine the bids weâll get for Trin, Heather, and that actress Regina Redman?â
Both Reed and Father Provoost knew they would be bidding on the beautiful doctor.
Publicity by the church, entertainersâ studios, and the national news media had resulted in a sellout. Dixie and Roxie had prevailed on the newly selected hotelâs management to donate the ballroom for the night, so the ball would be pure profit.
âOur financial report is staggering,â Roxie chimed in. âWe have already surpassed some of the past balls in fund-raising.â
They discussed every detail of the Ball, and at the end of the evening Trin was satisfied that they had everything under control. âIn the morning we will wake up to find the Ball has taken on a life of its own and will take off like a cattle stampede. All we can do is stay out of the way and let the professionals take it from here.â
Trin adjourned the meeting, and everyone began discussing their costumes.
âWhat costume are you wearing?â Reed asked Heather.
âThe evil queen.â Heather laughed. âI may be positively wicked.â
âAnd Iâm going as her white knight.â Trin joined the discussion, slipping her arm around Heatherâs waist. âEvery evil queen needs a white knight.â

Trin was talking with her brothers, her back to their bedroom door when Heather made her appearance. The quick intake of breath from Monty and Vegas told her Heather was in the roomâthat and the ever-present tingling sensation she felt when Heather was near.
Trin turned slowly to look at her. Heather stole her breath away. She wore a flowing, floor-length, black skirt, and her blouse plunged low, revealing ample breasts. A riding crop hung loosely from her hand. Dressed as the dark queen, she looked powerful, exciting, and terrifying. Trin so wanted to see if she could live through making love to herâright now. She fought a battle with her mind and body to keep from pushing Heather back into the bedroom and ravishing her.
